What I would give to be in the cabinet these days. I'm hoping beyond hope that Clegg et all are being seriously bound by CCR and not being sincere.
Rioters: I get it. Really, honestly, I get it. But... abuse of the right to protest. Again, smashing up the Camilla's car sounds like a nice night out for me, but please, please, please. Violence is not how you get shit done; violence is how people get beaten up.
End doesn't justify the means.
Government: Okay, Clegg. We need to talk. When people are in Parliament Square, starting fires and rioting SOMETHING IS WRONG. You are seriously out of touch with the public mood, and lest it escaped the Liberal Democrat leadership's notice we live in a representative democracy. Clue is in the name.
Not to mention that a rise in tuition fees will decrease the proportion of students from disadvantaged backgrounds applying to top universities, as it has indeed in the past, even it it doesn't necessarily lower the number of people going into degree-level qualifications.
I'm not sanctioning the violence, but for god's sake, when there are riots outside Parliament you need to start thinking. MPs work for the people, and when your boss is so hett up that you have fires lit outside your office, you have fucked up royally.
Also, if you want to cut something, cut the deficit bullshit. The national debt is a temporary problem, which you do not fix with a permanent rise in fees.
