Note the criteria, which party you'd like to see in government. That's not necessarily which party you'd vote for in the GE. Sad but true, people vote tactically, not to mention that who you'd like as an MP isn't the same as which party you'd want governing the country.
Also, as I said, it's about parties, not leaders. That means look at the policies people!
For those who haven't looked already, here:
- Labour (Patronising video alert. Please exercise caution.)
- Conservative
- Liberal Democrat. (handy little 'pick 3 feature', but the lactose intolerant among you might have trouble with the cheesy background music).
- Green Party Also, check here for an annotated version of their manifesto. Remember, the annotations are from the Guardian, and probably biased, so acknowledge them at your peril.
- UKIP. If you're genuinely considering voting UKIP, then allow me to suggest a more serious alternative. (What... biased? Me? Never!)
For myself, I'd like a Lib Dem government if I had to choose, but a Green MP. The Greens have fab ideas on everything except Europe- alas, something of a dealbreaker with me- so while I'd love to see them get into Westminster and have a say, I don't want Caroline Lucas in Number 10. All academic of course, it won't happen. Don't get me wrong, Caroline is lovely I'm sure.
As for Gordon's little mishap with his mike, all I can say is that it must be a stressful time for all the party leaders, and although I'm not a Labour supporter by any means (err, ID cards? No.) I'm personally quite willing to forget a little outburst.
But, hey, I'm hardly a typical member of the electorate. This might be the thing which tips the scales in Dave's favour.
I hope not. I'd hate to have to spend the next four or five years apologising for David Cameron as so many Americans had to do for Bush. Lucky Yanks and their fixed term Presidencies! At least Brown was mediocre at worst; Cameron will be downright disastrous. Plus... Ken Clarke? Really? I'm shuddering at the very thought.
I shall see you probably after next Thursday, when the poll closes, but you may get another post in the meanwhile if you're lucky and my workload diminishes.
Also, pigs might fly. I'm off to spend an evening with Type O Negative and a glass of Coke.
Peace.
TK xx
P.S. If you want to send me an email telling me why you've voted as you have, please feel free, I promise I'll read it.
